Using Atari 1040 for music

1994 I bought my first Atari computer. After lending a 520STE a coupe of weeks from a friend I decided to get my hands on a second hand 1040 STMF.

10 years later (2004) I still used an Atari, the second one in order. And last summer I purchased a third Atari 1040. Although I havn't hooked it up in my studio setup because I first want to install a hard drive.

The reason for using an Atari is the excellent MIDI-timing. Despite my Apple G5's processing power it still can't compete in MIDI-timing. Chained sequencers drift away from the master clock.

Right now I'm also looking for Notator, the sequencing package. I have three hardware keys for Emagics Creator if anybody would consider a trade. Beside Creator I also like using M: A generativ MIDI-software, which has unique interface interaction.

I also have tracked down Kentons ControlFreak which is to be used with Notator.

Logic or Cubase

Choosing between Logic or Cubase as your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is one of the most common choices when using a computer setup.

I bought Cubase SL 3 2 years ago for use on my Apple Powerbook Computer. The SL-series is cheaper than the CUBASE SX-series, and dont have all the funcionality as the expensive. After using the software a couple of weeks I knew I had made the wrong decision. Not only did I find it difficult setting up tracks for recording. But the software doesnt sync in a easy way with my other hardware based sequencers and drum machines.

Both Ableton LIVE and Apples Logic far exceeded Cubase in syncing to hardware, and in a home studio environment sync is quite imortant, too say at least. Also I find it more wasy setting up tracks for recording and the mixing environment is reallt flexible and powerful

So I purchased the Logic Express 7. The cheaper software, but decied to keep the cubase software when making music with friends that favour cubase.

Review: Moog phaser

The moog phaser is a dedicated phaser pedal effect from moog music. The pedal has several outpus enabling stereo based pasing effects controlled from the internal lfo. Several different effects can be created such as ring modulation.

The pedal is easy to use and feels like a really solid product. It is really easy to create warm sweepsand also to create electronic effects on drums.

The effects family also consist of a moog filter, analog delay and several other cool effects.
